Uptown and a midnight train…
Well, since I’m in Atlanta, I knew I had to do it. We always joke about chicken and waffles, but I went to gladys knight and ron winan’s chicken and waffles. Its just a few blocks from the hotel, so I couldn’t pass it up. I ordered an uptown (sweet tea & lemonade) and a midnight train (4 chicken wings & a waffle). They serve it just like the picture with butter and syrup.
It was good, some of the best fried chicken I’ve ever had, and the waffle melts in your mouth. Pretty decent place too, lots of gladys knight memorabilia. I was a little worried about going in, cuz I was one of a very few white people in the place, but people are pretty friendly down here. I was also escorted from and to the hotel by two different homeless guys. Even the homeless people are pretty friendly here.
Its strange though. In seattle, there are tons of homeless people all hitting you up for money. They get pushy and seem to feel that you somehow owe it to them. Of course if you offer to buy them some food, they refuse (hmm, drugs and alcohol?). Here, every guy that hit me up for change asked if I could buy them a sandwich or something when I told them I didn’t have any. That was a little weird.
